Final Game

Post Mortem Post

Here are three questions that were presented to us during class and told to think about and prepare ourselves for the future.

1. What is one thing that you could have known before class started to make things easier?

– One thing that I could have known to make things easier this semester was how to implement art and sound into Unity. I didn’t know how to implement sound into Unity earlier in the semester but learned this past week. If I would have known I could have helped out with the sound end of Dark Hack earlier on and got all the sound teams work in. As for the art, I’m not entirely sure how to properly install it in. For example placing textures into a scene properly so they won’t warp or distort.

2. What was the most valuable learning experience this semester?

– This would have to be working in a small group with around 6 people and having outside people working with you. This really helped me see what a small team environment is like and how it functions. It may be a little chaotic at times and stressful but its worth it in the end when you produce something that’s smaller but has a big impact. I plan on next semester taking on a larger role in the class to become more of a leader or outspoken person in order for things to get done on time.

3. What is one thing that you don’t want to forget for next semester?

– The most important thing that I don’t want to forget is the time it takes to implement everything within the game. It took more time that I had originally thought and now know that dividing up tasks in the team is extremely important. This is important because then that one person can explore that aspect of the game longer and find any unknown bugs quicker and easier and can also solve them on their own.

Presentation Notes

Here are some notes about the way I present myself during presentations during class:

1. The first thing that me and my team could do is all present ourselves better during the presentation. By this I mean little things like not looking back at the screen or looking down at the computer to see what is on it. Also another thing that I tend to do is fidget around when I’m not talking, for example like mess with my hands and arms and also sometimes make facial expressions that take me out of the presentation. Finally I could focus more on people involved in the presentation and listen clearly to what they have said and maybe add to their points.

2. The next thing that me and my team could do is better prepare for the presentation. The one thing that I tend to do is practice for a couple hours to just get what want I want to say clear in my head. But I believe that when the time comes I could still be better prepared for that moment. I would also like to memorize my place in the presentation better so that I know exactly when to start talking instead of looking at the screen.

3. The last thing that I could do is a mental thing which is to focus more on the presentation and not worry so much about what might happen. I just need to relax and go with the flow and then everything should come out to work just fine.

Dark Hack Progress

For the past week I have been working on a few things for the newly named game Dark Hack.

The first part of the week I spent my time creating and designing new levels that can be put into the game or split up and “chunked out” to other levels.

The first level players must catch a sticky bullet and break through a barrier that’s in their way. Next they must jump over a block and avoid turret fire before jumping on platforms to make it on top of the level. Finally after avoiding several homing bullets and deflector bullets, players must catch a sticky bullet from the final turret and break the block in the floor to access the end of the level. The second level players must first catch a sticky bullet mid air and aim it to destroy a breakable barrier. Next players jump up a series of platforms while avoiding a turrets fire. Next players must jump across and opening in the ground and finally avoid three turrets to escape towards the finish line. The final level players have several turrets firing at them at once. One is a sticky, two deflector and one homing bullet turret. Players can break the barrier several ways by either catching a sticky or deflecting a homing or deflector bullet. Once players pass this portion they must use the deflector bullet to allow two blocks fall that they can then use to access the end of the level. Final note here is that all art inside the levels to this point has been placeholder.

The remainder of the week has been spent on trying to get a menu system into the game. Here are the menus that I have been working on. Note menus will have a background image attached.
